Why should I buy an automatic generator instead of a portable one?An automatic generator will give you numerous advantages over a portable generator. First, as the name implies, an automatic generator will start automatically the very moment your property loses power. In contrast, a portable generator requires your manual setup, and therefore your property will be without power until you personally have the time and ability to connect your portable generator to your home. The American Red Cross also recommends a permanently installed backup generator as a safer way to provide backup power to your home. Additionally, an automatic backup generator is set to exercise itself every 2 weeks all year long which gives you the peace of mind that your automatic generator is ready for use whenever it may be called upon.
-
What is an Automatic Backup Generator? An automatic backup generator uses natural gas or liquid propane fuel to power your home or business during a power outage from your Utility. An Automatic Backup Generator sits outside your home or business similar to an Air Conditioner, and is wired to startup immediately without any required action from you the moment your property loses power.
-
How does an Automatic Backup Generator work? The generator’s automatic transfer switch monitors the power coming from the utility. When it detects a loss of power it sends a signal to the generator to start. This typically only takes a few seconds. Once the generator is running, the automatic transfer switch will safely disconnect the utility line and transfer power generation responsibility to the generator. The generator then supplies power directly to the home's electrical panel.
-
What happens when my power is restored? When utility power is restored the automatic transfer switch will detect this and switch back to utility power and signal for the generator to shut off. After shutting off, the generator will go through a cool down process before it returns to standby mode, preparing you for the next power outage.

How do I determine my total household income for Illinois Solar for All?Add up your TOTAL INCOME from LINE 9 on your last year’s IRS 1040 tax form for all adult persons (18 years of age or older) in your household.
-
How will solar affect my homeowner’s insurance premiums? To protects against risks of loss from “acts of God” (i.e. hail, wind, tornados, storms, etc.) you must add your solar system to your existing homeowner’s insurance policy. Contact your insurance agent to find out how much solar will add to your existing insurance premiums, but most of our customers find that their annual premiums only go up by $100-$200 per year.
-

What is Illinois Solar for All?The Illinois Solar for All program is designed to make solar energy more accessible to low-income households and non-profit organizations in Illinois. It provides incentives that significantly reduce the upfront costs of installing solar panels. To learn more about this state-funded program, please visit https://www.illinoissfa.com/

Will my roof leak with solar installation?Understandably, you may concerned about leaks anytime your roof is being penetrated. That’s why our 360 installers only use the most superior mounting attachments that offer optimal waterproofing and long-term seal integrity while preserving the integrity of your roofing as much as possible. Also, qualified solar projects from 360 Electric come with a 30-year roof-penetration extended warranty.
-
Is solar a sound financial investment? This of course depends on multiple factors, including the energy-producing potential of your array site, your personal tax situation, how long you plan to own your property, the present condition of your roof, and the number of incentives/rebates that your project qualifies for. Solar isn’t right for everyone, but it’s not uncommon for our customers to experience between a 10-15% annual average return on investment for the 25-year life of their solar system.
-
How long does solar last?Solar installations have a 25-year lifetime. Over time, the panels degrade in their production, so after 25 years most solar panels will only produce 85% of the energy they produced in their first year. While many solar components have 25- or 30-year warranties, after 25 years most customers will benefit from upgrading their system to the latest clean energy technology.
-

Contrary to common industry practices, our sales professionals are not compensated by commissions so you can explore all your solar options without feeling any pressure. Are there battery storage incentives in Illinois? In addition to Federal Tax Credits, Illinois has some of the best solar incentives in the country. Ameren and ComEd both offer a rebate of $300/kWh for battery storage capacity. For example, if your system’s storage capacity is 20kWh, the rebate amount you are eligible to receive is $6,000. When combined with the Smart Inverter rebate of $300/kW DC size, these incentives can significantly offset your upfront investment.
-
How do I know if battery storage is right for my home? The effectiveness of your battery storage system is solely dependent upon your site’s solar access. Assuming that there is no significant shading on your solar array, and your system is proportionally sized to offset your consumption, your battery will provide autonomy for your home. If you have a pattern of high energy consumption, especially during evening hours, solar paired with battery storage is a great option to further offset your energy bills.
-
How do batteries work with Supply-Only Net Metering?Supply-Only Net Metering is a billing method that credits customers for excess energy they send to the grid at their electricity supply rate. Under Supply-Only Net Metering, customers still pay full delivery charges for every kWh purchased from their utility. A home battery allows you to maximize the benefits of your excess solar production. Instead of exporting your excess energy back onto the grid, you can store it in the battery for your own future use. This allows you to realize the full financial savings of both your delivery and supply charges from every kWh produced. Batteries significantly reduce your grid dependence while maximizing the financial return of your solar investment.
-
How long do batteries last? The life-span of a battery is subject to a variety of factors, such as battery type, usage, and storage conditions. On average, a home battery will remain operational for 5-15 years, while most batteries come with a manufacturer warranty of 10 years. At 360, every battery paired with solar includes a 30-year Solar Insure warranty. This coverage guarantees that your battery will be replaced with an equal or better product if storage capacity falls under 50% capacity between years 11-30, free of charge. We encourage you to contact our team to learn more about Solar Insure’s 30 year solar/battery warranty.
-
What are my battery storage options? There are a variety of battery manufacturers inside the solar market. Currently, the Tesla Powerwall 3 is the most cost effective battery storage solution for residential application. Tesla also offers an Expansion Unit for the Powerwall 3 that allows you to multiply your storage capacity without multiplying the cost. We encourage you to reach out to our team if you’re interested in a free in-home consultation to determine your most optimal battery storage solution.
